The three amigos.  The three siblings.  For those who have not had the priviledge of meeting my brother and sister, she is the oldest, he is the middle and I am the youngest.  They are pretty great.

**edit** David is also handsome, young and single.  Only the best and brightest need apply.  ;)

Funny joke

February 24, 2008 at 6:41 am (Humor, TEXAS!)

Are you a Democrat, Republican or Texan?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the following question:

You’re walking down a deserted street with your wife and two
small children.   Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes
around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises
Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.   You are carrying a Glock
cal 40, and you are an expert shot.   You have mere seconds before he
reaches you and your family.   What do you do?
………………………………………….

Democrat’s Answer:

Well, that’s not enough information to answer the  question!
Does the man look poor! Or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
What does the law say about this situation?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway,
And what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
Should I call 9-1-1 ?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and  make this a happier, healthier street that would  discourage such behavior.
    ………………………………………….

Republican’s Answer:

BANG!
    ………………………………………….

Texan’s Answer:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Tap…Rack….. (Sounds of reloading)
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click Click Click

Daughter: ‘Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Hollow Points or Cor Bon’s new DPX ?

Son: Can I shoot the next one!

Wife: You  ARE NOT Taking That To The Taxidermist

I found this on Sarah Walston’s blog [linked on my blogroll] and found it too awesome.  I had to repost it here.  I know where I will dine on February 12, 2008.  Do you?

[Join IHOP to celebrate National Pancake Day on Tuesday, February 12, 2008.  From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. we’ll give you one free short stack (three) of our famous buttermilk pancakes.  There is a limit of one free short stack per guest.  All we ask is that you consider making a donation to support local children’s hospitals through Children’s Miracle Network, or other local charities.]

A movie coming out this spring by Ben Stein. EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed

February 7, 2008 at 3:41 am (Family)

http://www.expelledthemovie.com/playground.php

Aaron and I watched this movie preview clip and it looks totally awesome.  Ben Stein has made a movie about how scientists are being pressured and persecuted for believing Creationism.  He accurately points out that people only make threats and get defensive when they have something to hide.  Thus pointing out that people who believe we came from mud hit by lightning know they are wrong and have something to hide.  I look forward to seeing this movie!

For everyones sake, I’m glad things are better

February 1, 2008 at 10:57 pm (Christian beliefs, Homeschool)

Well I wasn’t going to post the last post until I could post something a little more upbeat to follow it immediately.  Mainly because I didn’t want anyone to think I had completely gone off the deep end.  Only partially.

Let me just say I don’t think Aaron could ever get enough credit in this lifetime for the amazing husbanding that he does.  [side note: every year when American Idol starts up, my oldest daughter suddenly thinks this is the new career for her.  While I appreciate joyful voices raised in song, I tire quickly of someone aspiring to force all of us to succomb to her "interesting" vocal talents.]  So anyway, a week ago Friday Aaron worked from home because I was completely emotionally whacked out.  Yesterday he worked from home because I was physically whacked.  I am feeling better now thank goodness.

The hardest part for me is to lay off the homeschooling when stuff like that starts to happen.  I think the reason why is because I really want the children to be prepared when they go to school this fall and not be “those poor little homeschooling children who are behind.”  I am fully confident that Kathryn’s reading levels are above average but working on the math, history, science, handwriting [a waste of time] and Bible learning is amazingly time consuming.  The wonderful part is that she likes it.  The un-wonderful part is that she is slower than molasses because she is 6 and her mind wanders and she starts to doodle or day dream or flip through the pages.  I used to do this in school all the time, so I feel for her.

I am going through the 100 Easy Lessons [HA!] with Caleb before he starts school this fall.  He is a very fast learner but AMAZINGLY wiggley.

Jessie has decided that the best way to entertain herself is to cause chaos and throw a fit [on the sliding scale] about anything and everything every minute or so.  She can look forward to spending more time in her room sitting in her chair in time out.  It is the only thing that worked for Caleb when he used to do that.  Funny, as dramatic as Kathryn is I don’t remember her doing that?  Maybe because she didn’t have to put out much effort to get our attention b/c she is the oldest?

Well, time to put the old nose back to the grindstone…  [what kind of expression is that?]  I am looking forward to going to Conqueror’s Club [young marrieds @ church] tonight.  :)

Does it get better than this?  No, I think not

The schoolwork, laundry and dishes will be with you always… [written Wednesday]

February 1, 2008 at 10:43 pm (Christian beliefs, Family, Homeschool)

I’m thinking that is in the Bible somewhere.  Probably near the reference about the poor being with you always.

I get to the end of the day and my nerves are frayed.  Stuff, work and more stuff.  Filled with countless interruptions, temper tantrums [some of which are mine], poking, pestering, and whining.

My nerves are frayed.  I’m yelling too much.  I shouldn’t yell at all [from anger].  Jesus help me.  I hate setting a bad example for my kids.  Of course I also hate it when you ask for something simple like go get your shoes on and the six year old walks off to play.  Or flat out doesn’t listen to given instructions for math work.  Time to put on some Norah Jones.  She is very calming.

My ability to parent well seems to go in cycles.  I feel like I do okay for a while.  Like I’m treading water, but I’m making it.  Then a string of events will happen.  It will either be the children [seemingly as a group?] entering into a trying period.  This is when I’d swear they are like the chickens on Chicken Run [the movie] with a list of things they are going to do, just one time only so as to stir up plenty of trouble without actually providing cause for being “in” trouble.

Or, if the kids are fine sometimes a string of mothering opinions [from others] gets to me and I feel that I must comply or I’m not measuring up.

Yes, I realize this particular blog is fairly personal.  Jesus help me, I can’t turn the Norah Jones up loud enough.  I think maybe the kids are possesed.  It takes the six year old an hour to get two pages of math work done.  No, the work isn’t over her head and yes she has the aptitude for it.

I’m thinking I am going to set a timer for how often Jessie goes into a tantrum [this is a sliding scale for a cry that lasts anywhere from 5 seconds to several minutes cry for one reason or another.  I’m betting is about every 60 seconds is how often I hear from her for one negative reason or another.

I can actually visualize myself sitting on the front porch smoking a cigarette waiting for my husband to get home.  And I actually haven’t the slightest desire for a cigarette.
